The inspiration behind this blog post has been inspired by actual
events that made me think about the facets of worldly beliefs V Godly beliefs.
This concludes last week’s post by looking behind consumerism V an alternative
Christmas Message regardless of your beliefs or non-beliefs.
The run up to Christmas is commonly stressful - physically,
mentally, spiritually and financially draining. The irony is that the true
meaning of Christmas should be anything but those things. Irrespective of your
faith the holiday season perhaps could be a time of reflection, because without
question, we live in dark and uncertain times.
This is also an ideal opportunity to inspire young people to live
out what Jesus stood for. A world that is characterised by unconditional love,
peace, joy, patience, gentleness, faithfulness, hope and kindness banded
together through Him. I attended a Celebration of the Christmas Story at
my daughter’s school.
Below I share some of the children’s hopes and dreams for the
future derived from their Christian Values:
‘Inspiring others in every way possible, having patience with
family and friends.’ ‘Appreciating what we have and having empathy for the less
fortunate.’
‘If everyone follows the path of the Lord we are making peace
throughout the world, just like God’s will.’
‘My perfect future has no starving children’
‘My perfect future has no fights and no wars’
‘My perfect future has all the children with good
education’……………………………………….
‘I hope my future is perfect’
In a broken world there is a real need for us all to foster a
mindset of the above in the next generation to create change in the world. I
noted that true faith isn’t about converting everyone to attend church; it’s
more about sharing the love of Christ and putting words into actions. Doing
what God would do here on earth, feeding the hungry, supporting the homeless
and helping those who have reached hard times. The love is not dependent or
conditional to your belief of Christ or not because with God there is always a
choice and love without agenda.
I do believe that life experiences have greater value presents.
Seeing the world is a gift in itself. Since my daughter was old enough to
understand, I made a point of telling her that all our outings during the
festive period are part of her Christmas presents. It made me smile when she
asked the inevitable ‘does that mean I won’t be getting any presents?’ I
reassured her that of course she would be getting presents, but I just wanted
to encourage her to acknowledge all that she has, not just the stuff.
Presents come in various forms, not just the obvious physical
products that we are led to believe. Our health for one is an awesome blessing.
It is intentional for me to foster gratitude in her heart because the human
mind tends to always want more. A present is a gift and not an automatic right
of entitlement.
Life experiences are a profound connection between you and the
world connecting our body, spirit, mind and soul to inspire us with visions and
ideas to live better lives and inspire future generations to continue this
legacy.
I wish you all a healthy, happy and hopeful Christmas with family
and friends.
With peace and love
KIMI
