Preface to KIMI’s book……………………………………………………………

For those who have been following my blog, you will know that this book was born from one of the toughest periods of my life, where I was physically, mentally & spiritually exhausted. In 2013 my professional life started to mirror the dysfunction, drama & strife filled circumstances that I tried so hard to escape. My response was similar- I didn’t have much of a voice I was suppressed by my environment. I lasted 12 months in the job that nearly killed my spirit for life, as each day passed a piece of my soul left.

When I was signed off work for a month, I knew it was a matter of when, not if, when I be being forced to resign. After I went back, it was clear that a decision needed to be made sooner rather than later, for the sake of my sanity and most of all my daughter. When I finally left that dire place, I felt a sense of peace & relief washed over me. Despite not knowing what I was going to do next. My mentors has been integral during this transitional period of healing, soul searching & ultimately looking at the next phase of my life. I sought therapy & a common theme was identified- a pattern of systematic mental & emotional abuse was endured throughout childhood into adulthood that became my norm.

Reading books became the lifeblood of my journey to find make sense of what seems to be a senseless situation. The words spoken over my life, seem to have come true until I came across some potentially life changing information. The first book was called It’s your time by Joel Osteen- every word spoke to my soul, especially the words of ‘don’t turn a season of mourning into a lifetime of mourning’. By the end of the book my mind has been renewed. I was focusing on possibilities & solutions it was fuelling my desires to use this as opportunity to create change.  I also came across a book by Steve Harvey, Act like a Success & Think like a Success. He believes that everybody is born with a gift to excel & the key to experiencing life riches. This book is how I rediscovered myself & realising my gift to write so I started a blog to share my journey.

Finding the Lord in 2014 has enabled me to realise that my mess can turn into my message & my pain can turn into my purpose. This information became the motivation to turn this into an Idea-an idea that can change the lives of many from dysfunctional, challenging & difficult circumstances. Writing a book seemed to be a natural progression. I brain stormed a few ideas but nothing really stood out. I pondered on a unique idea to possibly launch myself as a credible writer, I came to a bit of a writer’s block for a while.

In January 2016- one the way to school one morning, my 9 year old daughter, Lola said to me why don’t you write a book, using the KIMI acronym? I instantly fell in love with the idea because I was keen not to rewrite more or less of the same to what’s already out there.
I note that there are plenty of memoires & biography based books already talks about dysfunctional upbringings, childhood traumas, abusiveness & so on. The idea of framing our journey into our brand name sounded refreshing, raw & real.

KIMI is an acronym that stands for Keola meaning life-I began to talk about my life only to put it into context, how life experiences can inspire change & work for the better. The Inspiration was feeding my Motivation to make a difference & to possibly influence change. Your past does not define you, through healing you can be redefined by it for the better. The Idea(s) it was fuelling the indefinite KIMI manifesto is to engage, encourage & elevate all to think & be beyond their circumstances especially the youth. This formed the basic foundation of my book to tell my very own journey to be truly free of past endeavours.

I have had the amazing privilege of having some of the best business people, who literally mentored me to realise I am more powerful that I think, effective people are accountable for their own destiny & never limited by their circumstances. The only thing that is stopping you achieving the life of your ultimate desires is you. Little did I know at the time, these words became the foundations of my new journey. The dots join up & propel me into a new level of existence. Special thanks to the following who mentored & believed in me that they took the time out to encourage & share their wisdom. All whom continue their commitment in me today, which I am always eternally grateful for: CM, RM, CC, TH, MH & GL.

You will see more recently in the last 12 months or so, church life has become a massive part of my life. I would also like to say a special thanks to all the staff & volunteers at SA, BCC & TCC for their consistent efforts in bringing God’s Word to the forefront of all. It feels an incredible honour to formally acknowledge each individual church in my journey in seeking the most important relationship of all & that is seeking a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. I have made some lifelong friends here that I would forever cherish especially JW, KW & MM who has personally taken me under their wings in my quest to finding everlasting love, peace & joy.

Highly Effective People Strives For Excellence

Hello I hope you enjoyed the last 2 special blog posts about Parentalk and Abuse. I felt it was important for me to use this platform to raise awareness on topics that could make a positive impact on future generations. This week is back to talking about life, inspiration, motivation and ideas-this post was actually inspired by a rather dysfunctional event. Every day we have many distractions, which can keep us from our destiny if we chose to be consumed by it.  Our dreams has to be bigger than our current reality to cause us not to sweat the smaller stuff and that involves letting some things or people go. The difference between effective and not-effective people is how we chose to channel it. Below is how (after the initial annoyance) I done it. Just to put this into context- the individual(s) concerns were unable to take accountability for their actions / errors, instead what I observed was a misuse of power and the slow demise of an outdated organisation. A book review – Part One - Dealing with Disappointment by John Hindley

This book was a relatively easy read with the simple idea that leaves you to question: is life just one big disappointment?  In many ways it does seem so; the author delves into different areas of disappointment in our lives. I suspect most if not all are relatable to everyone. Firstly, the author says we actually should be disappointed by life, as things are not as good as they should be. We live in a frustrated and frustrating world; the frustration is because of the fallen world when sin entered humanity. We all carry this divinely inbuilt sense that the world should and could be better. The book goes on to say that on the other hand, we are sometimes too disappointed with life.  We expect satisfaction from other areas of lives to overcompensate for this.  When this satisfaction is denied, it starts an over-disappointed cycle. For example, I came across a thread where the mum wrote in and expressed disappointment in her children’s grades, which led her to ques...

A seemingly insignificant act has the potential to change the world...

I loved learning about the story of Reformation Day. The significance centres on how the Bible became accessible for everyone to read - historically the general public wasn’t allowed to read it, only priests or those considered anointed within the church were allowed to read it. The priests read the Bible in Latin, so for most people, it wasn’t even possible to read it. God’s word was entrusted into the hands of those in power, who were deemed qualified to understand it.  What the priests were teaching, was not actually in line with what the Bible said, as one monk, called Martin Luther found out. He started to read the Bible for himself out of pure frustration.  According to the teachings of the priests, believing in God seem to be just to be an endless set of rules and it left him feeling as if he could never be good enough for God. Little did he know at the time, he was about to birth a revolution that quite literally changed the world. This set him on a path of ...
